Reynolds Project, June 21, 2008

After extensive hip surgery, the 83-year-old Althea Reynolds was unable to continue with her daily ritual that she loved so much, sitting on her back porch with a cup of coffee. Ms. Reynolds’ surgery resulted in her right leg being 3 inches shorter than her left, which made it almost impossible for her to maneuver in and out of her own home.

Reynolds’ name and story was submitted to Builders Care and they organized the workday. Among the volunteer base was Builders Care President, Eric Olsen, the Volusia Home Builders Association’s President, Stan Janzen, Volusia HBA’s Executive Officer, Sue Darden, a volunteer from New Home Finder, Sara Rivers and Evan Rivers. The crew spent the morning mixing and pouring concrete to build a new set of stairs in the front and back of the home.
